JEFF LAWRENCE: SET LIST AND REVIEWS

jeff lawrence "more scars"

"More Scars" by Jeff Lawrence is thick with mood. The listener is easily drawn into the progression of Lawrence's melodies, created on a variety of instruments, most notably, the guitar, though one will also hear bass, keyboards and dulcimer, not to mention drum programming in spots and congas by Eric Keeney, also the CD's producer. The music would be perfect for a night of toking as it's almost nothing but heady atmosphere, even when the musical layers themselves are spartan. You can almost hear the musician making love to his instrument as he pulls these heavily emotive sounds from his guitar, etc. My favorite stuff is when he goes for the almost southwest sadness, as I'll call it, the kind of melancholic, hard boiled music you see played over desert landscapes in movies. I hope I'm conveying the power of Lawrence's music. If not, you'll just have to see for yourself. Fans of strong instrumental music that drifts like the soul are encouraged to check it out.

Jeff Lawrence, one of the more eclectic artists I've had the pleasure to review, has turned toward softer, more introspective songwriting with "Scars", a melancholy, neo-folky set of compositions that weep with emotional poignancy but also could serve as the soundtrack to a morning on a mountaintop cabin watching the sun rise. The mood will heavily depend on what the listener brings to the table. Pacing ranges from slow, new age-ish guitar work to a little faster picking that rings of mountain music (there's that motif again) but nearly always with a soft, thoughtful touch.

jeff lawrence "heart of the son"

From chillout guitar, beautifully fingered, to atmospheric southwestern stylings, Jeff Lawrence's labor of love, "Heart of the Son", is a gentle and heartfelt array of instrumental guitar compositions. The music stands as an emotional outpouring, an expression of the soul spoken through the medium of fingers on strings. The voice that results is beautiful and soul-exploring, easily able to bring the listener into its kind and poignant embrace. Fans of soft guitar music of the "new age" variety, they cannot go wrong with Jeff Lawrence. Search his name at www.cdbaby.com for purchasing information.
